Reviewer Comments: I bought this bat for my 9 year old son. This bat, in my eyes, is really one of the best secrets in baseball. The bat is designed to align the outer knuckles (knuckles closest to the nail) on BOTH hands so that they are in a straight line while gripping the bat.
Most kids (as and example for a right hand batter) while grasping the bat will have the left (lower) hand knuckles that are closest to the left wrist aligned with the right hand outer knuckles (closest to the nail). This set-up does not allow the hands to work together causing your little Johnny to lose bat speed which causes him to lose a lot of power.
The V-Grip bat has a tapered V in the grip - somewhat like a wedge that gives your batter the proper hand placement. This hand placement allows the batter to align the outer knuckles for BOTH hands in a straight line on the bat and out of the palms. This may seem very strange for your little leaguer but when he pops one for the first time using this new hand technique, he will clearly see that he can crush a baseball with his hands aligned - He will be a believer.
This bat is not very good for game use as compared to some of the high powered composite bats that are out there. But using this bat to groove the swing first and then upgrading to a higher priced bat is a sure way to go.

The most important element of Baseball is, of course, a Baseball bat. Whether you are an amateur or a League player, Baseball bats are designed to suit different needs. They are basically made out of some specialized woods, alloys, composites and aluminum. The raw material for crafting out a Baseball bat depends upon the League.
Talking about the wooden bats, the most popular is maple. However, aluminum bats are the trend nowadays. Debate is going on which one is superior in quality- wood or metal.
Meanwhile, some research says that aluminum bats smack the ball faster because they are hollow and therefore lighter and easier to swing as compared to wooden bats. Most of the bats used in Little League, Senior League and college level Baseball matches are made of aluminum. Wood bats are meant to be mandatory for professional Baseball players.
As far as the choice of a Baseball bat is concerned, there are two types of people. One set think that wooden bats are classic and are more or less equal to their metal counterparts. The other category thinks that aluminum is supreme because of the quickness they get while hitting with aluminum bat.
Now that was about other people. What is your choice? Want to get some tips? Read on.
First of all, consider in which League you are going to play and decide the size. Consider the length, weight, circumference of your bat and of course, how much you can afford for your bat.
Another thing to keep in mind is the “special spot” of your bat, that is, the upper-mid section of the bat which punches the ball with maximum power.
If you want your Baseball to be more classic in its looks and don’t actually consider the weight, go for wooden bats. If ease in swinging is your priority, go for aluminum bats.

A man who broke his former lover’s leg with a baseball bat in her Beerburrum home must serve four months of a two-year jail sentence.
John Alexander Cavanagh, 35, pleaded guilty in Maroochydore District Court to causing grievous bodily harm to Evelyn Little, 29, in February 2006 after she had “keyed” his new Holden Maloo utility and stole a bottle containing $5000.
After a two-day trial, a jury acquitted the builder of burglary and committing a malicious act with intent to disable Ms Little.
The court had heard that the pair had an altercation at the Caboolture Golf Club.
Ms Little admitted she keyed the paintwork on the utility before stealing property from his house.
After learning of the $1700 damage to his car, Mr Cavanagh asked a friend to drive around the Sunshine Coast looking for Ms Little so he could remonstrate with her.
Ms Little claimed she was hit three times with the bat as soon as she opened an external door, and was later punched twice.
Judge Michael Shanahan said the jury’s verdict accepted Mr Cavanagh’s version that he received a “blow to the back of the head” before inflicting the grievous injuries, and that he took the baseball bat with an intention to damage Ms Little’s car, not her person.
But he said Ms Little suffered serious injuries from “a very forceful blow” which resulted in two operations.
Judge Shanahan said Ms Little was at fault in many ways by committing two criminal offences leading up to the assault. But he said the use of the weapon, force of the blow and the injury sustained outweighed Mr Cavanagh’s otherwise good character.
The court heard Mr Cavanagh had a previous assault conviction in 1995 after a group of people started playing too closely behind him on a golf course and violence erupted.

Movie Mama Rating: 1 out of 5Starring: Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Green, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, Ian McShane Directed By: Chris Weitz Running Time: 1 hr. 58 min. MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sequences of fantasy violence.Lyra Belacqua (Dakota Blue Richards) is a twelve year old orphan who lives in a world parallel to our own. It is a world where souls walk beside humans in the form of animals, where giant, talking polar bears are the fiercest of warriors, where witches fly through the sky and proclaim prophecies, where an authority called the Magisterium reigns supreme, and where a group called Goblers are kidnapping children left and right. When two of Lyras friends are taken captive, she embarks on an adventure to rescue them. Equipped with a golden compass that only she can read, Lyra stumbles into an epic battle that stretches across the entire universe.I hope that Philip Pullmans acclaimed novels hold a readers attention far better than this film adaptation held mine. Never once have I, no matter how terrible the film, thought about walking out of a movie theater but I genuinely wanted this film to be over after the first thirty minutes. Besides a dazzling wardrobe and captivating CGI animals, there was nothing else to applaud. For me, a fantasy world should be one that a child would want to step into, explore, and see for themselves. This bleak, cold, depressing, and terrible land Pullman has painted makes me appreciate the world I live in. Perhaps that was his intentto make us appreciate what we have here on earth. If so, he succeeds. But then again, he succeeds in fueling the demise of imagination. As a film critic, I found Chris Weitzs adaptation to be vague, sloppy, and downright frightening. There were so many borrowed elements that made this film unimaginative, from the green fire we saw in Harry Potter, to the battle sequences we saw in The Chronicles of Narnia, to even casting Lord of the Rings actors like Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen. Parents, Im begging you, dont waste your money on this one. Its a flop!PROS The Magisterium is a facist organization that will stop at nothing, not even brainwashing and torture, to hold onto its power. The underlying drive of Lyra, her friends, and her allies is to resist this tyranny and fight for freedom.Lyra promises her best friend that if he is taken by the Goblers that she will come find him. She ultimately keeps her word. There are several instances where characters demonstrate bravery: Lyra saves Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig) from drinking wine that has been poisoned; Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman) saves Lyra from torture; and the gyspy-like save Lyra from being captured by the Magisterium.CONS Lyra is far from a child role model. She is a habitual liar (ironic since her golden compass is a truth-telling device) who despises all authority figures, deplores the idea of becoming a lady, eavesdrops on purpose, and doesnt seem to exibit any light or goodness of spirit. Her character is so ridiculously abrasive that if not for the PG-13 rating, Weitz would have her cursing like a sailor.

She waits for the message, but she knows it won't ever come.
"I feel like my whole life ended," the 16-year-old Carlucci said last night at her father's home in the Bronx. "My mom was stolen from me. To say that I'm sad would be the biggest understatement. I'm devastated and angry. It's normal to be angry, right? ... I keep thinking, why did I have to lose her now? I wasn't ready for that. It wasn't time yet. There's still so much left that I need my mom for."
Candice Carlucci's mother, Janette Carlucci, 41, was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat March 22 in the Cortlandt home she shared with her fiance, Robert Sepe, the 53-year-old owner of Healthy 'N Fit International. Sepe faces felony murder and misdemeanor weapon charges.
State police found Sepe and his white Cadillac Escalade a few hours after the slaying on a Route 17 overpass in Binghamton, N.Y. He kept troopers at bay for five hours while holding a knife and threatening to jump. Police were able to remove him from the bridge.
The end of Janette Carlucci's life is shocking - not only for the way she died, but because it was the antithesis of the way she lived, Anthony Carlucci, 42, Janette's first husband and Candice's father, said last night.
"She wasn't one to incite an argument or make one worse," Anthony Carlucci said. "If anything, she was the one who would say, 'Let's take a step back and talk about this.' ... She woke up facing every day like it was an important day. She wasn't moody, or a battler or an angry person or a cranky person. She wouldn't yell. She just never yelled; it wasn't her. She was just very mellow."
Anthony Carlucci met Janette when the two were teenagers at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx. They dated through the rest of high school. After a brief separation, they reunited. By January 1990 they were married, and by May 1991, they had Candice.
By 1994, they were busy raising their daughter while Anthony was becoming a police officer in the Bronx and Janette was developing her career in management at Jacobi Medical Center. After a while, the couple grew apart, and a short time later divorced.
"Even though we were divorced and I'm the ex-husband," he said, "something I would never take away from her: She was a great mother, a great wife and a great woman. It didn't work out for us, but those things will always be true."
Though the marriage was over, the two made a commitment to stay friends and work together to parent Candice. They shared custody and continued attending family gatherings together. Eventually both dated other people, but still tried to keep a cohesive extended family for their daughter.
About 2003, Janette Carlucci met Robert Sepe, Candice Carlucci said.
"I knew him right away," Candice said. "I met him, I met his kids. She knew he was separated. That's what he told her anyway, and she believed him. She loved him. They were in a committed relationship for the last 5 1/2 years and were planning to get married."
About two years ago, the couple got engaged, Candice said. They talked about having a wedding and the babies they would have. They even tried to bring Sepe's children from his first marriage and Candice together as much as possible.
In September 2007, Janette Carlucci moved into Sepe's Cortlandt home.
Candice, who lived part time with her mother and Sepe, said nothing seemed different in the months they were living together. Sepe had a back injury, but it wasn't a big deal she said.
The night before Easter, Candice spoke with her mother about 12:30 a.m.
"She sounded fine," Candice said. "I was at my dad's, and so we were talking about when she'd pick me up the next day. I knew she had been busy, probably cleaning, because everyone was coming over the next day for Easter."
Janette Carlucci told her daughter she would pick her up at 4 p.m. March 22.
Later that Saturday, Sepe's two sons - Robert Jr., 24, and Joseph, 17 - found blood on the carpet and walls of the first floor of their house. Police found a metal bat near Carlucci's body in a downstairs bedroom of the Quaker Hill Road home.
It was 6 p.m. when Candice got the call about her mother.
"I had been texting her and texting her, because it was already like 6 o'clock and she hadn't picked me up yet," Candice said. "My neighbors called me. They said Robert had beaten my mom and she was in the hospital."
Candice, who had been visiting her grandmother, went back to her father's house.
"I walked in and I saw everyone's faces," she said. "The police were there and my dad. I knew what had happened. I just knew."
Candice crumbled and her dad tried as best he could to explain how Janette died.
"We've been in and out of courts trying to get through all of this," Anthony Carlucci said. "You know it's not like she died in a car accident, where there's an investigation and you know immediately what happened and you can close the case and start to heal ...
"This thing doesn't stop tomorrow, or the next day. We have to relive this horror every day.

Tim: eh; Im ambivalent about book-selling blogs like this one; they tend to be forced and unnatural somehow.
myself: I think youre badly misreading the post. The point isnt televisions are bad or that everyone will always produce all the time. I was certainly consuming when I read Clays post :) The point is that consumption used to consume 100% of our media time, and that even the most impressive artifact of the new creation is a miniscule percentage of our media time. Therefore, if creation becomes even 1% of our media time, we should expect something like 20 new wikipedias a year. If creation becomes 10% of our media time then we should expect, from the US alone, something like 200 new wikipedia-like amounts of creation a year. You and I could quibble about whether 0.1% or 1% or 10% is a more reasonable number. But even if you assume that people will spend 100 times as much time consuming as they do creating, the sheer amount of new creation is still staggering to think about- 20 wikipedias! A year! Totally insane. Totally great, frankly.

KASHIWA, Chiba -- A 17-year-old boy infuriated by online insults used a baseball bat Wednesday to brutally attack a younger boy who is now fighting for his life in a hospital, police said.
The alleged victim, 14-year-old schoolboy, is unconscious and in a serious condition in the hospital.
The unemployed teenage perpetrator, who can't be named for legal reasons, was arrested for attempted murder. He admits to the allegations.
"I hit him," he told the police.
Several other boys who were believed to have been with the older teenager when the alleged attack occurred are also being questioned by the police.
Police said that the boys became involved in an online argument and when they finally met for the first time just after midnight Wednesday in a Kashiwa park, the older boy viciously attacked the younger schoolboy, beating him to the head several times with a baseball bat.
"He posted bad things about me on a site and it made me mad, so I hit him," the older teen told the police.
Police said the pair first came in contact several months ago through a mobile phone site the schoolboy set up and the older boy posted messages to. They initially swapped messages, but soon began writing insults about each other. The older boy used an associate to find out the schoolboy's identity and then apparently contacted him to meet in person so they could talk. They met for the first time in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Takada Ryokuchi park in Kashiwa.
Takada Ryokuchi is located about 1.5 kilometers northwest of JR Kashiwa Station. It is located alongside a riverbank and open 24 hours a day. A junior high school is located nearby.
Neighbors associate the park with dangerous youths.
"Lots of small kids and their mothers go there during the day, but at night all the older kids hang around there and it gets scary," a 56-year-old woman living in the area said. "I'm not surprised something like this has happened.

Three teenagers stole a bottle of alcohol from a Mesa Walgreens on Thursday afternoon, then threatened to hit the store staff with a baseball bat as they left.
Police said one of the suspects tried to conceal the liquor under his shirt at the scene near Alma School Road and Southern Avenue.
As he and the other two suspects attempted to flee from the scene, employees told them stop.
Authorities said the suspects did not stop, and instead raised the baseball bat, threatening the employees to back off. They then left.
Detectives were later able to identify two of the three suspects by watching the security surveillance video, and then locate their home.
Inside, they found all three suspects, 18-year-old Ake Fulilangi, 16-year-old Tavita Fatongiatau and 14-year-old Phillip Leal.
All three will face aggravated armed robbery charges.
