I shared my little story on how I got a Wii Zapper, along with Links Crossbow Training, for almost nothing last week. What I didnt mention at the time, because I hadnt realized it, was how the Wii Zapper suffers from the same regrettable issue that the Game Boy Advance did back when we were using our Gamecube to Game Boy Advance link cables: incompatibility with third party peripherals.
Those whove picked up the awesome Nyko Charge Station for Wii Remotes will be aware that in order for the system to work, you need to not only swap out the pair of AA batteries in each controller for the battery packs that come with the Charge Station, but you also need to swap out the battery door covers. These covers have a port in them that leaves the charging contact exposed so that when you set the controller in the cradle, it can make that connection and charge the battery pack. The other feature of the cover is a nice rubbery grip that perhaps could make one less likely to fling their Wii Remote into their nice projector set. Along with this safety measure comes the caveat that the slight increase in profile on the battery door means the controller will no longer fit in Nintendos Wii Zapper, which was designed with not even the tiniest amount of wiggle room. You see, theres a pair of hooks which snap into the heel of the Wii Remote, and it simply doesnt reach if youve got that battery door on. The solution? Snap off the battery door first. It doesnt stop the controller from working, and you get to use the Zapper as intended.
You can bet Nykos own Perfect Shot controller, which is by most accounts superior to Nintendos effort in every way, doesnt have this issue.
Its getting a little irritating having to deal with this crap now that these companies arent playing nice together. Im going to stop using the Wii Remote Jackets now. They feel nice, but I dont see the point since I wear my wrist strap and thats one less thing to have to apply and remove while changing controllers.

With the game being in development for so very long, I wasn't sure what to expect when the nice gentlemen from Spellborn NV sat me down to give me a first hand look at their MMORPG The Chronicles of Spellborn. The game was being shown in publisher Frogster's booth, the very same booth where I got my first look at Runes of Magic. In stark contrast to that game, which endeavors to combine elements of many successful RPGs into one game, The Chronicles of Spellborn team's goal is to create an MmoRPG like nothing we've ever seen before.
Character Creation: My first stop was character creation. The team had already generated pre-made characters for the combat walkthrough, but you can't truly know an MMO until you've crafted the shoes you plan on walking a mile in. While Spellborn only has two races ? the humans and the demonic daevi, the variations you can generate are nearly limitless. The body sliders in this game are not screwing around. Hitting the random button a few dozen times led to countless varieties of humans and daevi ? long and lithe, grossly overweight, short and stumpy ? anything is possible here.
Next you can select your clothing, which means a great deal more in Spellborn than most other MMO games. Clothing in the game has no stats, with attributes added by way of mystical sigils, so you never need to change your clothes if you don't want to, maintaining your own unique look throughout the length of the game. You can choose to be a mage in full armor, or a warrior wearing nothing but a codpiece, and people will be able to identify you by your particular style.
Finally you choose your archetype ? warrior, spellcaster, or rogue, each having three disciplines they can focus in. I would have further explored character creation, but this demonstration wasn't about navigating menus. It was all about ...
Combat: This is where Spellborn really sets itself apart. Instead of clicking on an enemy and hitting the attack button, players actively target their enemies using the mouse cursor. If the enemies move, you need to follow. If you want to dodge, move out of the way of their attacks. If you are firing a bow at the caster in the back of an enemy group, make damn sure there aren't any mobs behind him, cause a miss with a ranged attack could very well strike another mob, pulling a whole other group down upon your head.
Spellborn also features a unique way to organize your combat skills as well. Dubbed the skilldeck, it consists of five rotating slots, in which you can place six skills each. It's up to the player to place six skills in any single slot that compliment each other, creating combos and effects that stack or amplify damage. As you fight, you can hit the 1 through 5 keys to make a slot active, and left clicking activates them in order. Think of it as five different revolvers with highly specialized bullets.
Te warrior that the team provided me came complete with a melee slot that stacked attacks with bleed effects, a debuff slot that basically leeched life from our enemies, and a ranged slot, useful for taking out casters, especially with enemies as smart as these.
They're Thinking: In the combat demo I played through, my spellcaster companion and I faced groups of three mobs, generally consisting of a rogue, a warrior, and a spellcaster each. When we engaged in combat, the warrior and rogue immediately closed, blocking our path to the mage, forcing us to dodge around them to take him out with ranged attacks. If we tried to charge the caster, he backpedaled while the group's rogue slipped behind us to deal more damage and the warrior attempted to stay in our way. The enemy groups basically react like an adventuring party themselves. They'll attempt to dodge, slow you down, or even position themselves so a miscast spell will aggro other groups, forcing you to keep moving in order to avoid adds.
While we only fought human enemies in the demo, the team did mention that packs of wild animals had their own advanced pack behavior as well.
It took a little bit of getting used to, but soon I mastered the combat system, longing to get into my skills to see what combos I could create on the skilldeck, but we were on a timetable here and had to keep moving.
Quests: Spellborn has plenty of quests, each one mired in the story of the area you are in or the NPC you are helping at the time. You will find fetch quests, FedEx quests, and kill X number of mobs quests, but each one will have an underlying reason behind it. If you're interested in game lore, Spellborn is completely drenched in it.
The NPC I was currently assisting sent us off on a quest to set fire to an enemy commander's tent, forcing him out in the open in order to separate his life from his meaty bits. My mage co-pilot and I managed to take out several patrolling groups in no time flat, and I took out the commander on my own while she waited to recharge. Obviously I had gotten the hang of things, so it was time to move on to something more challenging.
Don't Touch The Egg: One last task lay ahead of me. The team teleported me onto a shard ship - a special sort of craft used to navigate the magical energies that suspend the shattered remains of a planet ? where an ominous looking purple egg was sitting on deck, ignored by the crew. I noticed the slight grins on the faces around me as I clicked on the egg, only to be swarmed by various creatures that might not have defied description had I been paying less attention to staying alive. As this was a developer trap for unwary journalistic types, I died rather quickly.
What Lies Hidden: The tag line for The Chronicles of Spellborn is ?What lies hidden must be found...?, and it applies just as readily to the game itself as it does the storyline. Hidden beneath the unique art direction, intriguing characters and flashy spell effects is an MMORPG that doesn't play quite like anything I've seen before.

The journalist Andrei Luzgin arrives in the town of Posolsk to find his missing friend. On arrival, he observed that something strange was happening in the city: people were disappearing without a trace. Corpses with terrible injuries were being found everywhere.
Luzgin is involved in a journalist investigation, during which he learns a lot about the terrible details that involve this city, where secret research and scientific experiments are being conducted. A few years after these experiments, Posolsk step-by-step becomes quiet and empty. Luzgin noticed that he was followed by someone, and this is clearly not a human being.
The police investigator, who agrees to cooperate with him, advises Andrei to terminate the investigation, but Luzgin refuses. Eventually he starts to keep an eye on Dima Smirnov, who once was linked to the disappearance. The suspect says that all the disappearances are accidents, and are the work of security services. It would seem that a crime has been solved, but not being able to bring his case to an end, Luzgin disappears.
After some time, FSB (an organization successor of the KGB) lieutenant colonel Vladimir Dolinsky arrives in Posolsk with a secret mission to investigate the incidents in the city. But he has his own motivation, his wife is infected with the rare disease, licantropia. To create a vaccine, the genetic material from the infected is needed. During his investigation he learns about the missing journalist from Moscow. The investigator, who worked with Luzgin, sends Dolinsky into the morgue. Observing the corpse, Dolinsky has doubts that this is Luzgin.

Third region of Runes of Magic introduced in detail
Berlin, 2008-07-17: Today, Frogster Interactive reveals detailed information about the third region of the fantasy world in Runes of Magic. The so-called Aslan valley is a glen filled with an atmosphere of primitive times. There are plenty of resources available like water and wood, but the humans settling on this continent disregard their value. For this reason alone the area still retains its original appearance and was not destroyed by human greed. According to tribes, who value the forces of nature, it is a place of ancient and immense power. Every civilization, who dares not to submit to natures will, risks total annihilation. More details about the most fascinating areas in the Aslan Valley are explained in game design document No. 2 which has just been published. Together with some nice new screenshots, it is available on the official website. PC adventurers can register for the beta phases right away: www.runesofmagic.com.

A particularly attractive feature for guilds and players is the possibility to arrange their own virtual homes with individual furnishing. Thanks to an extensive crafting and reputation system, thrilling PVP as well as demanding dungeons and boss-monsters, no wishes remain unsatisfied. The Taiwanese developer Runewaker has developed Runes of Magic according to western MMO standards within a time frame of three years. Back in November 2006, the Wall Street Journal ran a story about a Yahoo executive who talked about how Yahoo had spread its resources too thinly like peanut butter on a slice of bread.
eBay should encourage its leaders, risk-takers, innovators and those that are most passionate to invest more (not less) into the platform. When Meg Whitman left the company in January, her message was that there would be a new leadership team, a new perspective and a new vision.
Lorrie Norringtons latest message from eBay Live 2008 stated we want great stuff and great deals on eBay – new, used, and collectibles. This past year detailed seller ratings have been geared to help sellers improve describing items well, communicate with buyers effectively, ship items quickly and charge fair and accurate shipping costs.
And eBays upgrade to the view item page will lessen some of the clutter on the site. I disagree with any proposal that interferes with communication between buyers and sellers (ie: disconnection). I simply do not see how that will increase commerce. If I cant touch and feel what Im buying the best I can do is see the item and communicate with the seller (preferably easily)
The original of communication on eBay 10 years ago is what made the site so visionary and great. My original ID on eBay was my email address. And my store name was my website. No buyer ever told me I had poor communication, because I was so easy to locate.
In the process of insulating the site and buying out others, eBay lost its edge. The openness was closed. And platforms have innovated immensely. Someone needs to come in and integrate/synergize its existing properties, and take the best aspects of the open platforms and integrate them seamlessly into eBays new product pages. eBay is known for commerce Globally and can should and must protect its turf but remain an open environment in order to have success.
So now that the playground is all cleaned up, and standards have been set, eBay must step back and let the kids play. On the soccer field, a good referee shows their presence but does not continuously blow the whistlethey let the play go on as long as the ball is advancing and the kids are having fun.

Venom Games will be closing at the end of July, CVG learned today. The company most recently developed Don King Presents: Prizefighter and before that had worked on the relatively recent Rocky games.
According to CVG, the employees learned earlier today that the studio would be closing. Since there was no warning before the announcement and this closing comes a mere few weeks after Prizefighter released, it seems like this may have been set-in-motion long ago.
So the question is: Was Prizefighter rushed out the door before it was ready? It only came to one platform after all, and the media build-up was far from substantial -- not to mention the game was critically blasted on a technical level, which would signify that there was not enough polishing time.
CVG also found out that Venom Games was originally working on Bioshock for the PS3 (originally it was going to be released at the same time as the 360 version) but the coders said that it could not be done. So with that in mind it does make sense why there is no PS3 version of the game.
Still, the media blitz for this game came abnormally late in the development cycle. Also the window which the game released during was a bit strange when you consider that Top Spin (another 2K game) released almost on top of it, even though there was not a new Fight Night to compete with.
The Wii version of Prizefighter is not supposed to come out until September, but presumably Venom Games was developing that version as well, which leaves a whole bunch of other questions unanswered.
Venom Games is located in Newcastle, UK and was founded back in 2003. CVG contacted 2K about the closing but received a "no comment" as the only response.

It looks like former Major Leaguer Lenny Dykstra cant stand living in his huge mansion, so its time to unload.
The little, fireball formerly referred to as is trying to sell his home for about $25 million, even though it is worth closer to $27 million. The reason? Its just too big.
s a compound; its not a house, said Dykstra, the former All-Star outfielder. I can go for a couple of days and not see any other family members. I found out I had a tennis court I didnt know I had. And I had to buy it completely furnished. I couldnt afford to buy furniture to fill this place. Are you kidding me?
Really Lenny? You didnt know there was a tennis court on the lot? Did you not bother to take a little trot around the compound to see what you were getting into? Did you just think the little, tennis fairies miraculously put a tennis court on your lawn? I didnt know it until now, but apparently mass amounts of chewing tobacco causes brain damage and hallucinations.
So how big is the house formerly owned by Wayne Gretzy? It spreads out to a spacious 12,713 square feet, with eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a screening room.

WIMBLEDON, England -- There are any number of advantages to writing a blog, but near the top of the lengthy list is the opportunity to write your own headlines.
You have to be careful. One inside joke or profane reference and you won't be writing a blog, much less blog headlines for this paper. But there's nothing wrong with a silly teaser like, Water rationing for London?
It's 11 a.m. here (6 a.m. Eastern time) and the sun is out again. Again! It's bright. There might be a spit or two or rain today, but it could as easily be a fourth straight dry day here. It's like an average February day in South Florida.
Things are chugging along with rare regularity and those students from nearby Roehampton University, who are paid to drag the tarps on and off the courts during periods of rain have had little to do.
This morning, this place is still buzzing about the two unusual matches played Wednesday.
First, Marat Safin taking us down memory lane by actually playing the sort of tennis he should have been playing the last seven years to beat Novak Djokovic. Then, Ana Ivanovic, the ultimate luck-out, escaping match point when her forehand slapped the net cord, did a little dance and flopped down on Nathalie Dechy's side of the net, completely unplayable.
At the end of the match, Ivanovic twirled around the court, blowing kisses to the four corners of the court, then galloped forward and kissed approximately the spot where her ball clipped the net. Her personal Blarney Stone.
Both women handled the following press conferences with aplomb. I was really impressed with Ivanovic, who paid great tribute to Dechy. She knew she was the luckiest tennis player in the world to win this match.
If only her Serbian compatriot had been as gracious. For Djokovic to say this loss was more on his poor play than Safin's electric performance was unforgiveable. Nolo played very poorly. I've never seen his serve this poor. Ten double faults, the last two coming from deuce on the final points of the match. But he lost this match because Safin played as if he was in a third Grand Slam final.
The other thing that left me perplexed was Djokovic's remarks about being mentally tired. Mentally tired? This is Wimbledon. You're a Grand Slam winner. You're one of three favorites to win. You're 21 years old. I understand he had played 49 matches coming into Wimbledon, and that's a major load for half the season.
But he had a week off after reaching the final at Queen's. I thought Djokovic had busted out of the mental chains that grip almost all talented young playersr by winning the Australian Open. I'm no longer 100 percent convinced. When you start talking about mental fatigue midway through the season and during Wimbledon, and if that's not just a hollow excuse for a bad loss, then Nolo needs to sit down in a dark room and think about whether he has the commitment to reach the top.
*
And a little bit more trolling on this Thursday morning:
* Serena Williams is into the third round, where she lost at the French Open, and she'll be the first to tell you she's not quite in fourth gear yet. She gets Amelie Mauresmo tomorrow and, given Mauresmo's fragile physical condition, this should be a win. Mauresmo is a smart, veteran player, but that will take her only so far on grass. . .
* One of the most popular media questions during Wimbledon is aimed at men who earn most of their ranking points on clay, including Rafa Nadal. How difficult is it to make the transition to grass? is the daily question du jour. In fact, the transition is vastly overstated. The grass here now has been slowed enough that it's actually foolish to play serve-and-volley tennis. . .
* Lleyton Hewitt is about 70 percent (OK, I'm just throwing that number at the wall) of what he was when he was winning Grand Slams. The pity is that because of injuries, he'll never be 100 percent again. . .
* I'm beginning to think this is the weakest top 10 in the women's game since 1997, when the year-end top 10 was Martina Hingis, Jana Novotna, Lindsay Davenport, Amanda Coetzer, Monica Seles, Iva Majoli, Mary Pierce, Irina Spirlea, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Mary Joe Fernandez.
* Davenport is here with husband Jon and son Jagger. He's a lot of fun to hang out with, Davenport said of her first child. But, she quickly added, There's no free time during this tournament. She's coping with a tender knee. There's no structural damage, but she never knows from day to day whether there will be pain or no pain while she's playing. . .
* The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour has once again put off making a decision on on-court coaching. The Board of Directors wants to continue examining the issue. I personally don't see a problem. The whole ban on coaching doesn't make sense. You've got chair umpires and linespeople trained to listen for the voices of coaches. So, if a fan calls out, Stop hitting to her forehand, or something equally obtuse, that's OK. But if the coach says it, it's a violation of the rules. Makes no sense.

Urban Extreme: Street Rage thanks to Data Design Interactive. It is an extreme racing game where the drivers can destroy opponents cars. Knowing that, traditionnal driving rules are not respected, which is even more true in the Carnage mode (kinda similar to Roadrage in Burnout going by the text) which should satisfy players in need for a crash. No release date has been given with the press release.

back in the major leagues, and it only took a 10-1 start at Class AAA Syracuse to convince the Toronto Blue Jays to call up the left-hander from Lancaster.
Parrish, with his third organization in less than a season, is scheduled to start Saturday afternoon's game against the Atlanta Braves. After that, he is expected to pitch out of the Blue Jays' bullpen since Toronto has two scheduled off days prior to the July 14-17 All-Star break.
"I think he deserves a shot at it,'' Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston told reporters.
The 30-year-old Parrish split last season between Baltimore, where he had pitched off and on -- and almost exclusively out of the bullpen -- since 2000, and Seattle, finishing with a 2-2 record and 5.71 earned-run average.
"This kid's pitched really well (at Syracuse) and he's done a good job,'' Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi said, "so, we'll see.

There are very few drills more rewarding than practicing deep backhands well. When the drill works, you can find a rhythm, hit each ball crisply, make successive shots tighter and tighter to the side wall, hit ten in a row, hit twenty in a row, hit as hard as you possibly can, hit high, hit low, hit three-quarter pace, move in and out to the side wall effortlessly, hit the ball so hard that it reaches the back wall on the fly, and hit with such control that you have to scrape to get the ball off the side wall.
It really is a great drill, with tremendous payoffs for your backhand during match play.
All those pleasures are yours, and more, if you simply learn the deep backhand rail drill.

When building a custom PC there are several different options you will have to think about. The sky is the limit when doing to something like this but for most people there are limitations. Cost, Purpose of the build, features and how long you want it to last are all things that should be considered.
The first thing that you will have to do is set a budget. Cost is the number one limitation of your build. With smaller budgets you will have to cut corners but should spend the money in certain places to improve reliability.
What is the purpose of the build and what are you going to use it for. Are you replacing an old obsolete computer or are you building for the newest game. You will need to know this so you know what hardware we can use. If you trying to run that new game you may run into an issue with cost but you wont know until you do some research. We can still build a budget gaming rig but you will have to turn down some of the graphics settings to keep a good frame rate. If you want to play music and movies you may want a nice sound card in your computer.
There are many different features to choose from that could be added into your computer. You will have to keep this in mind when at all times during the build. Many of the components will have to have support for some of the features that you may want. Think of all of the features you want and keep them in mind when researching your parts.
How long do you want this computer to last? This is question of both performance and reliability. Is it going to be depended upon everyday? Will you ask it to play new games 3 years down the road? This will determine where you will put your money.
Reliability of a computer can be increased by putting money in parts that are most likely to fail. Moving parts are the most problematic like the hard drive. Then stationary parts like the power supply and RAM are also prone to failure. Make sure you dont cut your costs in these 3 areas.
Performance is probably the main reason for a building a new machine and getting rid of your old computer. The biggest things that affect performance are RAM, hard drive, graphics card, and processor. To build a budget computer you have to know where to cut corners. Unless you are running games or graphics design programs you wont need a big graphics card. You dont need a top of the line processor to have a fast computer. Dont get the cheapest, middle of the line processor for a budget build will work fine. Do not cut corners on RAM and power supply. RAM can make or break your computer, with sufficient RAM your computer will run faster and be more reliable.
Now that you have an idea on what you want you can start researching the parts. take a look at what processor you can afford. Then you can base the rest of your system off of that. Make sure that all of your components are compatible with each other. So, when you know what processor you want then you only look at motherboards that support that processor.
Now you should have a enough information to get started on your build. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. This is all best to look at before you get started. If you go over budget then you can always take a couple features that are not totally needed to drop into your budget range. This article is just to get you started, there is more information to come before you make your purchase.
