SPRINGDALE - Bill Bailey and Tim Graham each fired a three-under par 69 to take the first-round lead at the rain-plagued Springdale Country Club Championship on Saturday.
Bailey was beginning the back nine when play was halted for around three hours because of heavy rain. He made four birdies and just one bogey in his round. Rob Costner and Michael Bader were one shot back, while Dee Dietz and Dana Sera were both two shots off the pace.

2004/2006 North Florida Section
PGA Teacher of the Year
I recently collected all the data on which body part should receive the National Golf School Sales Award and a trip for two to any island in the world that does not have a golf course.
The winner by a landslide was the right hand! Coming in a close second was the right shoulder and honorable mention was the left side of the brain.
Data:
The Winner
-The right hand wants to take control of the golf swing right from the start through to the finish.
-He does not care who he bullies around to achieve control.
-Charges have been brought against him for choking the club and squeezing the life out it.
-Murder charges for trying to chop, bludgeon and kill the ball are ever pending.
- Refusal to be a team player and follow the lead of the legs, body and left side, have caused grief for thousands of golfers.
The results were thousands of golf lessons for teaching professionals and golf schools.
CLOSE SECOND
-The right shoulder is an accomplice of the right hand and should be held accountable on all charges the right hand receives.
- The right shoulder is the force behind the right hand and wants to and does obliterate any chance of the golf club being pulled with great velocity down and through the ball.
-The right shoulder is the pushiest of body parts in the golf swing and someone should shut him up.
However I would like to personally thank him for is monetary contribution to my golf school lesson volume.
HONORABLE MENTION
-All right I know the left side of the brain is responsible for us reaching the moon, and our worldly successes but give me a break the golf swing is not that complicated.
-I truly enjoy teaching articulate left brain analysts as I enjoy their knowledge on various issues and right brain lessons are quite a bore, but please refrain from over thinking Mr. Left Side of the Brain and be smart enough to focus on the most important issues and not every detail of the swing all at once.
-Once the left side of the brain filters out the unimportant details and focuses on the main factors involved in swinging a golf club he could cost me lessons.

Today I would like to introduce a reasonably priced Shabu-Shabu restarurant "Onyasai"
It is a chain store extended from Hokkaido to Kyushu and Okinawa.
I went to one of the restaurant which is close to my house the other day and I thought it is a good idea to go there if you don't want to spend a lot of money (shabu-shabu costs more than 5,000 yen) but you want to experience shabu-shabu.

Every year, some 120,000 weddings are performed in Las Vegas, making it the most popular destination wedding site by far. But is a Las Vegas wedding right for you? If youre a traditional-minded couple -- or if one of you has been planning your wedding since puberty -- the answer is probably no.
On the other hand, if you want to get married quickly and are open to something different, a Las Vegas wedding could be perfect for you.
Below youll find some of the plusses and minuses of having a wedding in Las Vegas. If you decide to go ahead with it, youll be in the company of such notables as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Michael Jordan, Wayne Newton, and, briefly, Britney Spears.
PROS OF A LAS VEGAS WEDDING
Affordability This is the biggest advantage of a Las Vegas wedding. While a traditional US wedding costs $22,000 on average, you can have a complete wedding ceremony for a few hundred dollars (or less) in Las Vegas.
Timing You will be able to book a chapel for your wedding in Las Vegas on short notice. Reservations are helpful, although walk-ins are accommodated in some places. Just dont expect to sweep into a Las Vegas wedding chapel on Valentines Day or a popular holiday weekend and get married right away.
Convenience At Las Vegas hotels with wedding chapels, theres usually a wedding coordinator who can arrange everything from your wedding flowers to the officiant to music and photography/videography. And you can plan it all over the phone or even online.
Fun Couples whove been married before, older couples, and couples who love to laugh appreciate the ease of a Las Vegas wedding. And if you want to get married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator, who's to stop you?
Start the Honeymoon Early No need to get on a plane or head out of town after the wedding. Las Vegas is more than a great wedding town Las Vegas is a great honeymoon destination, too.
CONS OF A LAS VEGAS WEDDING
Your Wedding, Your Way Theres no comparison between a wedding planned months or years in advance with a quickie Las Vegas one. If youre someone who cares about having specific wedding colors, custom favors, a certain baker, local florists and bands, and other elements that personalize a wedding, you may not be satisfied with a standard Las Vegas wedding package.
Conveyor Belt Mentality While Las Vegas wedding chapels attempt to keep wedding parties separate, they dont always succeed. Some Las Vegas hotels have more than one chapel, so you may encounter people from other wedding parties. At one of the better Las Vegas wedding chapels, couples have one hour of chapel time: 30 minutes for guest arrival and seating, 15 minutes for the ceremony, and 15 minutes for photography. If you walk down the Las Vegas Strip later (or even pause at a craps table for a while), youre likely to see several other brides and grooms on your special day.
Guest List If you live far from Las Vegas, some friends and family members will be unable to afford the expense or time to travel to Vegas to see you get married. (On the other hand, this is a perfect way to avoid having marginal friends and family attend your wedding.)
Reception Sites Las Vegas wedding chapels are just that: Places where weddings are conducted. If you want to have a reception afterwards, that has to be arranged separately. Larger hotels have banquet and meeting rooms which are mostly used for corporate functions. I recommend a private room in a restaurant.
Tacky Image Despite the best efforts of Las Vegas' finest hotels -- which can produce gala affairs second to none -- Las Vegas weddings are still considered tacky by some.
ALL THE BEST
Whether or not you decide to wed or honeymoon in Las Vegas, keep this in mind: It's ultimately less important where you seal your vows than it is that you say them with a true heart -- and live them throughout your marriage.

We have a couple of very important local tournaments coming up at the Club on successive Thursdays.
First of all, next Thursday July 24th, the Carman Area Foundation has their tournament. It goes at 12:00 noon with a shotgun start. Entry fee is $100 per player or $500 for a team of 5 players. Groups go in 5-somes and the entry fee includes golf, dinner, and prizes. A tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the entry fee. Entry deadline is July 21st with entry forms available at the Pro Shop.
The Carman Area Foundation is a non profit organization that supports many needy groups around the local area.
The Carman EMS Tournament is being held this year on July 31st instead of the normal date of the second Thursday in August. This is due to the Manitoba Summer Games being held that week in Carman. The EMS tournament, formally known as the RCMP Tournament, has an entry fee of $60 per player or $240 per team. Entry forms are available in the Pro Shop. Entry fee includes golf, dinner and prizes.
This tournament also raises money for local charities and this is the 35th year in a row that this tournament has been held.

TRADITION HILTON HEAD, Hardeeville, S.C. -- In an effort to provide college golf opportunities for all junior golfers, UNDER ARMOUR, in association with the IJGT and Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy on Hilton Head Island, is sponsoring the first-ever College Golf Combines that will bring exposure to junior golfers seeking to continue their golf careers at the collegiate level and earn a degree.
Two combines will unite junior golfers and college golf coaches from Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior colleges. An East Combine is scheduled for July 28-29 at Tradition Hilton Heads Tradition National Golf Club in Hardeeville.
The following week, a West Combine is slated for Aug. 4-5 at East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif.
With more than 100 recruits already registered from throughout the United States and around the world, the East Combine has been very well received as a new opportunity for junior golfers to be evaluated by college coaches, said Tournament Director Stephanie Gelleni.
University of South Florida women's golf coach Marci Kornegay said the golf combine will benefit young people as well as colleges golf programs.
What a great service for college golf coaches to be able to observe future players hitting an assortment of skills shots in a pressure situation, she said. This golf combine idea is long overdue and could be one of the biggest tools for collegiate recruiting.

Golf Putting Practice Drills - Lower Score
Sure, there are those people who can pick up a new pastime or hobby and are just “naturals” at it. But that doesn’t happen very often. Even the best players in the sport say they play as well as they do and stay at the top of their game because of one reason – They practice. And that doesn’t just mean playing 18 holes every day.
They spend hours every day on each aspect of their game from driving, pitching, chipping and most importantly, putting. Most tournaments are won by players who hardly ever three putt and try to hole every ball with only one putting stroke.
Unless you are already on tour or are hoping to make it onto the PGA or LPGA tour, you probably don’t need or want to spend 8 hours a day practicing. That doesn’t mean that even the weekend or the occasional golfer can’t benefit from practicing.
Your game will benefit tremendously the more that your body and mind get used to following a routine and practicing the same stance, grip, and swing.
There are many great and inexpensive tools that you can incorporate into your practice that will improve your putting. One great exercise is to wrap two rubber bands around your putter’s head so that they are on either side of the center of the clubface or the spot that gives you the best hit.
Take as many practice shots as you can, even if they are on your living room or office floor, to train you to consistently hit the ball on the center of the club. This will help you to avoid bouncing the putt and most of all it will ensure that the ball goes where you are aiming.
Another great practice technique is to do the opposite and look at the cup as you are putting instead of the ball as you would when you are playing a round of golf. This practice exercise can help you to take your focus off of your body positioning and concentrate on the distance and lie instead.
As you become more confident you can increase the distance and practice on more complicated greens with even more intricate lies.
It is very important when practicing your putting techniques to be able to control the distance of your putt. Many golfers will make dozens of putts from 5 feet out and then 7 feet, then 8 feet and so on. They will circle the hole and practice these putts from every angle.
Another drill to practice and one that will help you to get a feel for distance is to put some sort of marker on the ground about 2 or 3 feet away from you and another one about 10 feet away from the first marker.
Practice with about a half a dozen balls. Your goal is to putt the first ball just past the first marker. The next ball should be putted just past the first ball and the third ball should land just beyond the second and so on.
None of the balls should ever go past the second marker. If a ball falls short of the previous ball or goes past the second marker, bring all of the balls back and start over. The more balls you practice with, the harder the drill. This is a great discipline to hone your distance technique, which is one of the most important aspects of your putting game.
If you want to improve your putting performance and unless you have been blessed with an abundance of natural talent you will have to practice. The great thing about practicing is that it is almost guaranteed that the more you practice, the more your putting will improve.

If you have a swing fault that makes you hit slices or hooks then you need to learn how to hit a ball straight of the tee. Apart from the satisfaction of hitting the ball down the middle of the fairway, you will also increase your distance of the tee. Whats more, you will find yourself with an easier second shot to the green when you are nicely positioned in the middle of the fairway.
What causes so many golfers the inability to hit a golf ball straight? The first thing to understand is why the golf ball moves to the left (a hook) or to the right (a slice) of the tee. Once you know how to fix a slice or a hook, you will then be in a position to learn how to hit a draw or a fade - which are basically just controlled versions of the hook and the slice but with less movement on the ball.
In order to keep this article short, I will describe what causes the slice and how to cure a slice; for the hook, the description and cure are the opposite of a slice. When the golf ball has a significant tilt of the spin axis to the right or in a clockwise direction, a slice will occur. With a slice, the ball ends up to the right of where you are aiming and the phrase is used when the flight of the ball is acute or inadvertent. The less severe version of the slice is called a
When you understand the basics of the golf swing you will know that you have to return to the original place at impact if you want to hit the ball squarely and straight. When the club face is open at the point of impact, a slice will occur and the ball will spin in a clockwise direction. Generally, the swing path is correct but the golf ball is not hit squarely at impact; this is normally caused by a weak grip.
If you find that you can not hit a golf ball straight, then the initial problem could be your grip. Whether you use an overlapping grip, an interlocking grip, or a baseball grip, the aspect of your grip that can influence the golf balls flight path is the strength of the grip. So, if you want to fix a slice, move your hands around to the right on the grip into a strong grip position.
Other factors that can cure a slice are the grip pressure; dont grip the club so tightly that the muscles of the wrist and forearms are tense. Try to increase the speed of your golf swing, not only will that add more distance it can also cut down on the amount of slice that you impart on the golf ball. The flex of the clubs shaft can also affect your shots; big hitters will need a stiff or extra stiff shaft, medium hitters should use a firm or regular flex, and shorter hitters should use a senior or ladies flex.
If you want to hit a golf ball straight then you have to setup correctly. Line up your feet and shoulders square and parallel to the target line. Even though your right shoulder will be lower than your left, they should still be parallel to the target. The ball position is also important; with a driver, place the ball opposite the instep of your left foot. Stand the correct distance away from the ball so that the club is grounded properly; if it is tilted forward then you are too close to the ball, if it is tilted backwards then you are too far from the ball.
Remember all the basics of the golf swing; keep your eyes on the ball, feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly flexed, spine straight and chin up. I wont go into detail about the golf swing here, just take your club back straight and bring it down again on the same plane. Maintain the same swing speed throughout the backswing and the downswing - dont try to over hit the ball.
There are two more swing faults that can stop you to hit a golf ball straight down the fairway - the push shot and the pull shot. Not like the slice, the push shot is when the ball flies of the club face to the right and the pull shot to the left. The push shot is a direct action of the golf swing that is caused by an in-to-out swing path and the pull shot is caused by an out-to-in swing path. Both the push and the pull are effects of an improper golf swing and not remembering the basics of the golf swing.

this guy?
No. It will not do. Even as we see African states refusing to take action to restore something resembling civilisation in Zimbabwe, the begging bowl for Ethiopia is being passed around to us, yet again. It is nearly 25 years since Ethiopias (and Bob Geldofs) famous Feed The World campaign, and in that time Ethiopias population has grown from 33.5 million to 78 million today.
So why on earth should I do anything to encourage further catastrophic demographic growth in that country? Where is the logic? There is none. To be sure, there are two things saying that logic doesnt count.
One is my conscience, and the other is the picture, yet again, of another wide-eyed child, yet again, gazing, yet again, at the camera, which yet again, captures the tragedy of . . .
Sorry. My conscience has toured this territory on foot and financially. Unlike most of you, I have been to Ethiopia; like most of you, I have stumped up the loot to charities to stop starvation there. The wide-eyed boy-child we saved, 20 years or so ago, is now a priapic, Kalashnikov-bearing hearty, siring children whenever the whim takes him.
There is, no doubt a good argument why we should prolong this predatory and dysfunctional economic, social and sexual system; but I do not know what it is. There is, on the other hand, every reason not to write a column like this.
It will win no friends, and will provoke the self-righteous wrath of, well, the self-righteous, letter-writing wrathful, a species which never fails to contaminate almost every debate in Irish life with its sneers and its moral superiority. It will also probably enrage some of the finest men in Irish life, like John OShea, of Goal; and the Finucane brothers, men whom I admire enormously. So be it.
But, please, please, you self-righteously wrathful, spare me mention of our own Famine, with this or that lazy analogy. There is no comparison. Within 20 years of the Famine, the Irish population was down by 30pc. Over the equivalent period, thanks to western food, the Mercedes 10-wheel truck and the Lockheed Hercules, Ethiopias has more than doubled.
My mothers side of our family - Daugherty is moms maiden name - were Irish potato famine refugees. I can attest to the event only a few generations removed. People died eating grass and strips of leather in Ireland! Curiously, Bob Geldof was not there to raise money for them, so those who could left and those who couldnt died, or barely survived.
This article is almost inhumanly harsh, but its right on the money. Expect faux outrage and crocodile tears from all of the usual suspects.

This results in a very sloppy swing and you wont be able to control your aim very well. Its easy to fall into this trap, especially if you watch a lot of golf. While a swing may appear to be fast on a pro, its actually a bit slower than it looks. If you are finding that your aim is absolutely unreliable, you may be simply swinging too fast. Heres how to break that habit:
Start by imagining that your club is the hands of a clock, with the ground being your starting point. Raise up the club a few degrees and hold it there before moving to the next position. Break down your movements very deliberately. Dont worry, its going to look a little funny at first and it may feel a bit weird, but youre getting there. Bring up the club slowly and then bring it back down using the same technique.
Now, once youve done that a few times, smooth out the stopping points until you have one smooth arc on the way up and the way down. Keep trying it until it feels natural. Remember, slow it down and youll have better accuracy. If you feel yourself speeding up your swing, return to your first exercise to break it down again.

Curious commentary about the Falcons, football, sports, and all the while wondering where in the world is Benny Anders of Phi Slamma Jamma!
I know what you're thinking...is that the best title for a blog that you could come up with, Wes?
Alas, we move on with my first blog for the site.
As you might have guessed David Archer and I will be here from time-to-time with some thoughts and notes that help keep the pulse of the Falcons going till camp opens in late July.
There will also be some items that are simply "head scratchers." Movie information, sports items, pop culture, etc. Some times designed to be funny, other times, it might just be something to share on sports.
There are several items to cover since the end of the season last December, but just a couple highlights to pass along as we work our way toward the draft later this month.
Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith have moved swiftly and confidently in making some of their off-season personnel moves. How it all fits together, we really won't know until after the draft has taken place.
In some sense, the Falcons will be taking players that you would guess have to play early. But there will be some that will have to play a lot early. That's not something that many teams will be thinking about in New York.
I have gone back and forth in my own mind about the Falcons first pick (3rd overall). I'm hearing lots of interesting talk about it in various forums (radio, TV, internet), but nothing that is earth-shaking.
Ryan or Dorsey or Trade? A lot more about the first two options than the third, but I guess it bears mentioning at this point.
One of things that I keep coming back to me is that with a surplus of picks in the first four rounds (I think that’s what you call 7 of the first 103 picks), what positions do you want to address in those first seven slots? There are some real good players, who have played a long time that were taken in the first 100 picks.
While a lot of discussion has been about Ryan or Dorsey, if Jake Long is available, do you grab him? It might not be a sexy pick, but he is a “pro tackle” according to most observers.
Look forward to reading some of your thoughts?
WHERE IS BENNY ANDERS?
Each time you see read my blog…you’ll notice at the top of the page that I wonder where someone is. This is a tip of the cap to longtime Nashville sportswriter Joe Biddle, who has “random ruminations while wondering whatever happened to” in his columns for several years.
Today’s topic, in honor of the Final Four, is former Houston guard Benny Anders. Anders appeared in three straight Final Four’s for the Cougars. Barely played in ’82, off the bench in ’83 when the Cougars beat Louisville in the semi-finals, before losing to NC State in the finals. Anders had three or four dunks in the semi’s against the “Ville”, including a breakaway reverse in the second half.
In ’84 at Seattle, Houston lost in the finals to Georgetown, best remembered for Michael Graham and Reggie Williams, and some guy named Ewing. But Anders played sparingly, but his impact was high, when he showed up at the Kingdome on Friday for the open practice wearing white tails and a pink tie combo with his practice shorts. Anders added the Ray Ban wayfarer sunglasses for the classic touch.
Do you think Roy Williams or any of the other guys would go for that this week in San Antonio? Let alone the kind of breakdown would the NCAA have with Anders.
By the way, I have to pull for Carolina (it’s a family thing you know), but I have Kansas winning the title in my bracket.

Due to the untimely death of our esteemed Chairman, Dr. Tim Mahony, the Captains’ Prizes that were scheduled to take place two weeks ago were postponed until Saturday 26th July when a new timesheet will be made available and this will open on Monday 14th July at 12 noon.
In the meantime, the McCalmont Cup Matchplay has reached the quarter final stage and the following pairings have to play before the end of July; John Mulholland v Ray O’Malley, Bill Hutchinson v Andrew Nixon, Chris McHugh v Pat Price Sr., and Michael Doyle v Una O’Sullivan.
Last Wednesday saw the July Ladies Invitation Day take place and the format was a three person scramble. The scoring was very good with all the prize winners breaking the 40 points barrier. Ann Cowley had the envious distinction of scoring a hole in one at the par 3 third hole, for which she received a special prize on the day.
The July Monthly Medal will be played for next Sunday and hopefully the weather will have improved somewhat for the players.

Instead of checking books out at the library, I spent money on printer ink (BW, of course), and printed out enough to satiate my reading needs at work. Anything and everything; every old copy of Danny’s and Ralph’s newsletters, every forum thread that looked interesting, etc. Hundreds and hundreds of single-space, small Arial font pages of content at a time. I was on a mission. To where, I wasn’t sure, but I was definitely on a mission.
Then it hit me; instead of trying to sell web design services to all these golf courses and golf companies, how about if I build a portal for golf, catering to the club professional? That way, when they search for golf-related items, they may find my site, click through, be impressed (OK pipe dream, but still), and become a client. So I did it. I built a site for the golf industry that I’d use for lead generation.
By this time, I was basically done playing online games; this was business. I started building the site with no aspirations for it generating revenue; just to provide leads. I did generate some spotty business from time to time, but it definitely wasn’t enough to support my family. It was clearly a side gig.
I pressed on, generating content, starting a monthly newsletter, reprinting press releases, etc. Google started paying attention, and started loving it. I started ranking for some very generic golf terms (in the top 5 for golf jobs, golf industry, golf range, golf clubs, etc.) Lots of traffic, but little business. Interesting, but not in a money kind of way.
Then I had another idea. As of this point, I listed all golf companies in their respective category alphabetically, for free. Why not give them the option to “rise to the top” of the listings for a fee? And so it went, and it did OK, but nothing impressive. Then I added some Amazon links, and did OK with that too (a few hundred/month, definitely less than $1000/month). I was now at about $600-$700/month from the site, free and clear. Nice little hobby, but that was about it. Then I turned AdSense on and it all changed.
Not wanting to go into too much detail, I can comfortably say that at its peak, I was making several thousand dollars/month from Adsense. Then I did what a lot of people did; I got greedy. I started piling on affiliate programs, building out pages for products, over-exposing Amazon affiliate links, etc. It worked for about 6-9 months, and then, overnight, my monthly earnings went from a few thousand to a few hundred. The value in this lesson cannot be overstated. You don’t know where the edge of the cliff is until you fall off, and I fell hard, never to recover.
By now I had built enough personal experience in the game, and built enough of a personal brand (although nobody was talking about this online) that I was contacted by a head-hunter. I was offered a position as an in-house marketer in the Chicago suburbs. Personally and professionally, it couldn’t have been better timing. I packed my stuff, and moved, and have been in the Chicago suburbs ever since.
The knowledge I gained by taking the initiative proved invaluable in my future (and current) work. Knowing some of the tricks affiliates use; knowing how to hand-code HTML; understanding the value of solid site architecture; riding the algorithm shifts up and down. All of this builds a certain level of confidence in the craft (not arrogance; two completely different things). I think I carried that confidence into my interview, and into every conversation that I’ve had about online marketing since then. Nothing breeds confidence like experience, and it was the one thing I had in spades.
And that’s how I got started in SEO. Now it’s your turn. How did you get started?
Consider creating a blog post about how you got started in the industry. Then, leave a comment below with a link to it. Of course, I won’t be disappointed if you decide to link to this article as an example. Forever a marketer, right.

Take it easy! Many golfers hibernate for two or three months during the winter. Due to inactivity their muscles and tendons used in the golf swing lose much their tone and elasticity, so once you finally get to play make sure you stretch and loosen up before you tee off. Golfers with a history of back problems should be particularly cautious, otherwise they may ruin the new season before it even begins.

The 3DX DC Utility has a wider body that offers a higher launch and more spin in comparison to its ironwood counterpart. It is set up more like a fairway wood, designed for players looking for a higher ball flight and lower and deeper center of gravity . This utility wood is marked with a fairway wood designation, but it is meant to be the answer for players seeking a fairway wood-like setup, but who want the control and ease of play that hybrids have become notorious for. To create an even hotter and more forgiving hybrid, Nickent thinned the face of the 3DX DC, creating a much higher C.O.R. than the original 3DX Ironwood. A special plasma welding process was used to help redistribute the weight to the extreme perimeters of the clubhead. 40 grams of weight were moved down and back in the head using two tungsten-polymer fused inserts (XW Inserts). Thats almost 60% more adjustable weight in the clubhead than in the leading adjustable weight hybrid! Nickent has used this opportunity to create a club that is perfectly weighted to the extreme heel and toe for the straightest and most forgiving setup .

If you cant seem to find the time to spend at the driving range and your backyard is too small to practice your golf swing, all hope is not lost thanks to virtual golf. Of course, this is not quite as satisfying as feeling the club strike the ball, but it may be a good solution between trips to the course. As the name suggests, you place a ball on the tee just like you would otherwise, but the ball will not travel outside a certain area. Or, you can opt for a net in which you can hit the ball except you will, obviously, have to hit the net each and every time.
